Charlton et al (2002) - not sure if the year is correct
Uses: Social Cognitive Theory
Aim: to investigate the effect of the introduction of television on aggression in children.
Procedure:
St Helena, a remote island in Atlantic Ocean. (Napoleon was there)
TV introduced in 1995.
Cameras were set up in playgrounds. Children between 3-8 observed before (1994) and after (2000) the introduction of television.
160 children.
TV content had little difference in the quality or level of violence compared with children in the UK. (same level of violence)
Result:
From the analysis of videotape, along with interview data from teachers, parents and some older children, showed no increase in antisocial behaviour among children of St Helena. The good behaviour evident before the arrival of television had been maintained even after five years of exposure to violent television.
