Localisation of Function

Localisation of function is the thoery that certain function, such as language, is localised to certain locations in the brain. H.M related studies are perfect for this area, as he shows that the ability to create new declarative memory is localised to the hippocampus (medial temporal lobe). He also shows that he is able to create new procedural memory, which is useful for the cognitive approach (multistore model). Patient HM fell off a bike when he was at the age of 8 and suffered from epolepsy. He went through bilateral medial temporal lobe resection under the hand of Scoville, which removed his hippocampus. Afterward he became unable to create new declarative memory and suffered severe anterograde amnesia. Look below for the specific studies related to the localisation of function.
